Director’s Update: 22 February

Hi folks,

As far as updates go, I finally have the most substantial update . We had a really productive Committee workshop, and we finalised a lot of our plans for Conpulsion Lite.

Dates for Individual Events

We have finalised the dates for the various Conpulsion Lite events we will be hosting. We will host the charity live stream on Friday, 8 April, the guest panels on Saturday, 9 April, and the games on Sunday, 10 April.

We have also confirmed our roster of guests for Conpulsion Lite. We are now just compiling the social media and web content and graphics, and we will make an announcement about this soon.

Web Site Banners

We have updated our web site banners to more accurately reflect the dates of Conpulsion Lite.

Besides this, we are also going to open game submissions soon.

So that is a lot we got through today, and we hope we will have more progress for you in the weeks to come.

Director’s Update: 8 February

Hi folks,

We just had a Conpulsion Committee meeting today where we got the ball rolling for a lot of things for Conpulsion Lite.

We’re still figuring out some minor admin hiccups, and that should be resolved soon. After that, we should be able to get the ball rolling with setting up our charity collections and announcing which charity we are partnering with.

We have also reached out to some amazing people in the gaming community and invited them to be guests at Conpulsion Lite. We are still working out the details, and we hope to have an announcement about this shortly.

In the longer term, we’re looking into bringing back the Griffie Awards for Conpulsion 2023. The Committee are still bashing our heads together to figure out how to run those.

Finally, we have commissioned a proper logo for Conpulsion: Homecoming by Angus Barker. Angus is no stranger to Conpulsion, having designed the logo for Conpulsion: Flame in 2020. We should have a new look for Conpulsion soon.

After we nail down these details, we will then subsequently be able to schedule the gaming event, charity live stream, and other bits and bobs for Conpulsion Lite and Conpulsion: Homecoming. Watch this space for more updates in the future.

Postponing Conpulsion: Homecoming

  • Postponing Conpulsion: Homecoming to 2023
  • Hosting Conpulsion Lite, a series of on-line events, this year instead

The Conpulsion Committee has been monitoring the Covid situation and the Scottish Government guidance. After careful consideration, we have decided to postpone Conpulsion: Homecoming to April 2023.

We acknowledge that this would be disappointing to many within our community. We were also looking forward to seeing everyone in person again. However, while Covid restrictions are easing off, we are erring on the side of caution because of the transmissibility of the Omiron variant and the risk it poses to vulnerable members of our community.

Moreover, even under relaxed rules, our usual venues are still operating at reduced capacity. Any event that goes ahead in these circumstances would be greatly curtailed. We decided that the sensible way forward would be to postpone Conpulsion: Homecoming to next year, when we can hopefully have a full con experience.

In the meantime, we are going to organise what we’re calling Conpulsion Lite on the weekend of 9 and 10 April. This will be a series of smaller events, such as a panel, one-shots, and a charity live stream, instead of a whole convention. We tried organising an on-line con last year, and it was just not the same. Rather than replicate that, we are going to try and make the most of what we have now, and offer a variety of things for people to drop in and out of as they please.

Our sincere thanks to our lovely community of gamers for your ongoing patience, support and enthusiasm. We will be back with more updates soon. In the meantime, you can watch this space, follow our social media, or get in touch via email.

We shall see folks virtually in April, and then in person again next year. Until then, I hope that:

Absence will not seem an evil
If it make our re-meeting
A real occasion.
